Conundrum
I found this Marimekko mini at a thrift store–yes, it was $1. My local thrift store doesn’t do that annoying thing where they jack up the prices if the item is “designer”, most likely because they don’t bother to look and wouldn’t know what is really “designer” and what just has a fancy-sounding name.
It’s taken me a year to wear it–can you guess why? I could not figure out what to pair it with. In winter, maybe white tights/boots and a white tee and brown jacket–but in summer? I had no idea. Matchy-matchy can be overwhelming, especially when you’re in the pink/red/coral zone, though admittedly I’m not one to shy away from brights.
This morning I realized that the tank top I had slept in (also a thrift store find)–cheap, stretchy, not very work-appropriate–has the same tones as the skirt, but with such a strikingly different pattern, they just might work together.
I think it was a success. And not having to change shirts this morning after getting out of bed? Bonus! Just don’t tell my colleagues that I’m wearing my pajamas to the office, okay? But I am kind of proud that my entire outfit cost me $2.
The takeaway? Don’t be afraid to pair the unthinkable. Be bold and wear your jammies to work.
